This page says in plain words what data we collect, why, who sees it, how long we keep it and the control you have. Questions: [email protected]
What we collect
- Account: your e-mail address (for the sign-in code), or your Google account if you sign in with Google.
- Profile: what you write yourself, such as your name, photo, city, interests, languages and work.
- Content: posts, Together plans, help requests, messages, reviews and business pages you create.
- Location: by default only the city you choose yourself. "About 1 km" or "exact" only if you turn it on and allow your device; the exact point is deleted as soon as you choose anything else. Where a country's policy does not allow it, the device location is never used.
- Invites: your invite code, who joined with it and whether it counted. We keep a random key on your device and send the server only a one-way hash of it, so invites from one device are not counted; we do not fingerprint your device.
- Blue Tick and payments: the history of your tick and subscription. We never see your card number; payment happens with the payment provider and we are only told the state of the subscription.
- Photos, camera and microphone: only when you send a photo or record a voice message and allow your device to do it.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, we need an identifier of your device or browser to send them.
- Device and app kind: whether you use Android, an iPhone or a computer, through the app, the installed web app or a browser, and the app version; only these few words, no device identifier. Used only so Jahan Team news (like "a new version is here") reaches the right people.
- Where you came from: if you arrive through a link or a banner (for example from Instagram), the name of that link is kept with your sign-up so we know which way works; nothing else about you is added.
- Usage statistics: simple events (such as "profile completed") on Jahan's own servers, with no advertising cookies; IP addresses are kept only as a one-way hash with a daily salt, so they cannot be traced back to you.
- Site visits: visits to jahan.io and the web app are counted without cookies by the service that delivers the site: which page, from which country, on what kind of device, and how fast it loaded. No IP address or identifier that leads to you is kept; we only see totals.
- Error reports: if the app fails, technical details of the error are sent so we can fix it.
What we use it for
- To make Jahan work: show you, connect you with people and plans nearby, deliver your messages and send the sign-in code.
- For safety: stopping abuse, fake accounts and spam, and reviewing reports.
- To improve it: overall statistics that show which parts are used.
- E-mail other than the sign-in code and necessary account notices only comes if you allowed it.
Who sees what
- You are not shown on the map until your profile is complete. After that, by default only a random point in your city is shown, never your home, and you can hide in one tap whenever you want.
- The exact place of a plan or help request is only for the people who were accepted.
- Private messages are seen only by the people in the conversation. The Jahan team reads only messages that someone has reported.
- Business pages are public. Profiles are not indexed by search engines by default.
- To run Jahan we use companies that provide infrastructure; they can reach data only for that job and under contract. Your data is not sold, and there are no advertising trackers.
Countries
In countries where Jahan's map policy asks for a confirmation first (such as Iran), nothing about you appears on the map until you confirm, and your device location is never used.
How long we keep it
- Your account and content for as long as you have your account. If you delete your account you have seven days to change your mind; after that it is deleted and it is already off the map and the pages.
- Raw usage events and the search log are kept for about 13 months; after that only anonymous totals remain.
- Backup copies are kept for a short time and then removed automatically; what you deleted leaves them when that time has passed.
- If the law or safety requires it (for example following up a serious report), some data may be kept longer.
Cookies and storage
- Only what is necessary: staying signed in, the language and theme you chose, and on the website a few temporary notes that disappear when you close the browser (such as "you have seen the map hint" and the tag of the link you came from).
- There are no statistics or advertising cookies, which is why you do not see an "accept cookies" bar.
Your rights
- You can see, correct, export or delete your data, from the app's settings or by e-mailing us.
- You can take back any permission you gave (location, notifications, e-mails) whenever you want, in Settings.
- Jahan is for people aged 18 or over. If we find someone under 18, the account is closed.
Changes
If this page changes in an important way, we tell you in the app and ask you to accept again. The date and version number are at the top of the page.
